Glenn Mathewson has worked in various parts of the construction industry for the last fourteen years, starting as a laborer and apprentice, to framing homes as a subcontractor and later operating his own remodeling and deck construction company, Mathewson Carpentry. Later, he partnered with Highpoint Decks acting as a salesman, designer and lead carpenter from projects that averaged $30,000 to $130,000. His projects have been featured in Correct Deck advertisements and articles in Professional Deck Builder and Trends magazines. Glenn spent five years working for the City of Westminster, CO as a residential and commercial building, plumbing and mechanical inspector. During this time he earned a Master Code Professional certification from the International Code Council, their highest level of certification attainable. Following city budget cuts from a rough economy, Glenn became a Project Manager for Bornengineering, providing various construction and code consulting services during 201. He returned to the City of Westminster as Assistant Building Plans Analyst in November 2010 to continue to grow as a construction code professional. Glenn has authored over 25 technical articles for Professional Deck Builder and the international Code Council's new book, Deck Construction Based on the 2009 International Residential Code. Glenn is a construction and code educator, with national audiences ranging from contractors, to property manager to building department personnel. Drawing on his experience as a tradesman, contractor, consultant and building inspector, he is able to review and discuss the standards of construction with a true understanding of the realities involved with applying them in the field.
